titleOfInvention Preventing agglomeration of particles dispersed in hydrocarbon
abstract 1484677 Rendering waxy oils transportable MARATHON OIL CO 5 Dec 1974 [4 Jan 1974] 52708/74 Heading C5E Pumpable hydrocarbon slurries are produced from waxy crude oils by fractionation (e.g. distillation) to produce a low pour point fraction and a high pour point fraction, congealing at least a portion of the high pour point fraction into particles and dispersing the particles in the low pour point fraction; 1-10,000 ppm (based on the weight of the slurry) of a polymer of average molecular weight at least 5000 is added to the low pour point fraction before or after the congealed particles are dispersed therein. The polymer is preferably a polysaccharide or a modified polysaccharide having saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chains of at least 15 carbon atoms; other suitable polymers are polydimethyl siloxanes, polyisobutylene, ethylenepropylene copolymers and ethylene-vinyl fatty acid copolymers. A diluent (such as a non- waxy crude oil, straight-run gasoline, reservoir condensate or crude oil fraction) and/or a gas (such as carbon dioxide or a hydrocarbon having less than four carbon atoms) can be incorporated in the slurry to reduce its viscosity. Surfactants, e.g. sorbitan monolaurate or sodium petroleum sulphonate, and bactericides can be incorporated in the high pour point fraction prior to congelation.
