titleOfInvention Water repellent gypsum composition
abstract 1499237 Water repellent composition MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 April 1976 [3 April 1975] 13318/76 Heading C1H A water repellent gypsum composition comprises gypsum and an aqueous paraffin emulsion prepared by emulsifying (a) paraffin hydrocarbon having a melting point of 40-80‹ C. and (b) an oxidized paraffin having an acid value of 10 to 70 at a ratio of 97:3 to 50:50 by weight in water, in the presence of a water soluble alkali metal compound or ammonium compound (e.g. alkali metal hydroxide, alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate or ammonium hydroxide). In the emulsification an emulsifier, e.g. polyoxyethylenealkyl ethers and esters, polyoxyethylenealkylaryl ethers, polypropyleneglycolpolyethyleneglycol ethers, polyoxyethylenesorbitan fatty acid esters and sucrose esters may be used. The composition may be mixed with an aqueous polymer emulsion or solution (e.g. of an acrylic ester polymer, of vinyl acetate homopolymers and copolymers, or of a reaction product of urea, formalin and hexamethylenetetramine). Other additives such as lightweight aggregates, e.g. perlite, vermiculite and microballoon, blowing agents, reinforcing materials, e.g. glass fibres, asbestos and rock wool and setting speed modifiers may be present in the composition.
