Basic copper- and aluminium-containing carbonate of the composition CumAl6(CO3)0.5mO3(OH)m+12 is prepared. m represents an integer or non-integer value between 2 and 6. Aqueous solutions of precipitable salts of copper and aluminium, which contain copper and aluminium in an atomic ratio of m:6, are mixed and the mixture is mixed with a solution containing alkali metal carbonate and/or bicarbonate in such a way that a pH of from 8 to 9.5 and a mixing temperature of from 60 to 90 DEG C is maintained in said mixture. The precipitate obtained is dried at a temperature below 100 DEG C. The carbonates obtained are used to prepare catalysts. |
