titleOfInvention Electrostatic water treatment apparatus
abstract 1525901 Electrostatic separator PROGRESSIVE EQUIPMENT CORP 19 Jan 1977 [20 Jan 1976] 02082/77 Heading B2J An electrostatic water treatment apparatus for removing mineral and biological materials therefrom, comprises an electrode 1 having a dielectric coating 2 thereon, for immersion in the water to be treated, the electrode 1 having at least at one end, an end cap 5 or 11 telescoped over its end and sealed by means of an O-ring seal in a water-tight manner thereto. As shown, the upper end cap 11 has an O-ring seal 8a, 13, an aperture 14 venting the interior of the hollow electrode 1 to the atmosphere with a coupling 15 mounting the cap and electrode within a grounded shell 3, which may form the water pipe. Lower end cap 5 is similar to end cap 11 except that it has no aperture and is sealed to the shell 3 by a welded cover 10. In another arrangement, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), the treatment apparatus is inserted in existing piping and has a similar end cap and seal at each end of the electrode, with the venting passage provided via one of the centering spiders provided at each end to centre the electrode within the pipe.
