titleOfInvention Device for concentrating solar radiation
abstract 1529255 Reflectors for solar radiation UNISEARCH Ltd 10 Feb 1976 [13 Feb 1975] 05058/76 Heading G2J [Also in Division F4] A solar radiation concentrator consists of a strip R of transparent material having on it a pattern of prismatic parallel grooves arranged to refract incident solar radiation on to a trough-shaped reflector B, C, D, the opening of which is closed by the strip, and a linearly extending target P, e.g. a water pipe, arranged within the reflector parallel to the axis of the strip. As shown, the reflector is shaped in section so as to have two part-circular side portions C, D, arranged symmetrically on either side of the pipe P and joined by a planar bottom portion B. Alternatively, the reflector may have planar side portions and a cusped bottom portion, Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown). The refractor strip may be formed as a plurality of side-by-side planar strips arranged at different angles, (Fig. 2), or curved strips forming a continuously curved refractor, (Fig. 4). The strip may be secured in grooves formed along the edges of the reflector. The reflector may be formed of aluminium, galvanized iron sheet, or polystyrene foam covered with a reflecting layer, and the refractor may be formed of glass or plastics material.
