abstract |
A vehicle is provided with a water tank (11) and a high pressure pump (13) which supplies a horizontal nozzle unit (16) on the front of the vehicle with high pressure water at a high rate of flow. The water is jetted downwardly and forwardly in front of the vehicle and produces almost instantaneous melting of lying snow by the energy released on its impact. Pressures of the order of 40 Kg/cm<2> and flow rates of 40 litres/min are utilised. The water may be pre-warmed by pump friction. The apparatus is demountable on a truck and is capable of clearing snow without damage to the road surface at a high rate. Adjustment of angle of attack and height of nozzle unit by hydraulic (water) cylinders (25, 28) enable packed snow and sheet or plate ice to be dislodged from the road surface. <IMAGE> |
