titleOfInvention Forming suspension apertures in bags
abstract Apparatus for forming an elongate suspension aperture in an upper welded area of a form-fill-seal bag comprises a rear clamping jaw 10 (shown in underside plan in Fig. 1b) for the bag making and filling machine which has a conventional ribbed face 16 and houses a central insert 26 having a proud planar face 32' and a knife 36 reciprocably mounted therein. A co-operating jaw 12 (Fig. 1a) has a mating ribbed face 44 and houses a central die assembly 52 having a recessed planar face 54 slotted at 64 to receive the knife 36. The jaws 10, 12, each incorporating heating means (not shown), are operable, to form a crimped seam having a planar medial area with an elongate C-shaped cut therethrough which allows the apertured seam to be threaded on a spatulate projection which is in accordance with EEC Regulations. <IMAGE>
