Respirators. - A portable breathing apparatus for use in conducting a rescued man through a zone of foul air or in reviving an unconscious man with or without the application of artificial respiration is adapted to receive air normally expelled from the relief valve of a portable breathing apparatus using liquid or compressed oxygen or liquid air as its source of supply. The breathing apparatus to be worn by the rescued party is connected by a tube 11 to the relief valve 12 of a sen-contained breathing apparatus worn by the rescuer, air from the valve 12 passing by way of the purifier 3 and tube 5 either to the mouthpiece or mask 8 or to the breathing-bag 2, which is provided with a shield to prevent accidental damage. Exhaled air passes by way of valve 7 and tube 4 to the purifier, a stop 15 being provided to prevent admixture of exhaled and purified air. A relief valve 10 is provided in the tube 4. In an alternative arrangement the breathing- bag 2 is replaced by a two-compartmental breathing-bag which has its own purifier and is carried on the front of the wearer. |
