titleOfInvention Float-type clutch for automatic washing machine
abstract An automatic washing machine includes a clutch float (45) having external gear teeth (47). The clutch float (45) is located around a shaft (24) which is driven by an electric motor (13) and to which an agitator (50) is secured. The clutch float (45) couples the shaft (24) to an inner rotatable tub (40) when its external gear teeth (47) are engaged with internal gear teeth (49) at the inner tub side in a dehydration step. The clutch float (45) moves upwardly in subjection to buoyancy when water is supplied into the inner tub (40) in a wash step. The external gear teeth (47) of the clutch float (45) are disengaged from the internal gear teeth (49) so that the shaft (24) is decoupled from the inner tub (40). The washing machine further includes a rotation restricting float (32) which moves upwardly in subjection to the buoyancy in the wash step to couple the inner tub (40) to an outer stationary tub (5) and which decouples the inner tub (40) from the outer tub (5) in the dehydration step. A device (85) delivers a position signal indicative of the position of the clutch float (45) which is vertically movable. <IMAGE>
