A kettle comprises a body 1, a spout 4, a handle 3 extending above the body, filtering means 16 located within the body about the spout opening and a user-operable mechanism 20, 26 for moving the filter means away from the spout, the mechanism being located in the handle and extending down into the body to act on the filtering means. Preferably the mechanism consists of a trigger 20 and a push-rod 26, the push-rod engaging the filtering means such that when the trigger is activated, the push-rod pivots the filtering means away from the spout opening. The filtering means may be provided with a resilient member or spring 19 which biases it against the spout-opening. In an alternative embodiment, the filtering means is biased towards the spout opening by an oblique flange (19', Fig 8) formed integrally with support (12, Fig 8). |
