abstract A manifold 2 comprises base plate 1, at least two connecting blocks 3 inter-connected by at least one intermediate block 4 and a pair of end blocks 5. Connecting blocks 3 comprise horizontal hole 21 in base 18 which communicates with vertical hole 20 in vertical cylindrical portion 19. Base 18 may be cubic. Intermediate block 4 comprises two horizontal, cylindrical, portions 26 that insert into hole 21 and are located either side of fixed portion 25 and horizontal gas passage 28 which opens onto upper surfaces 27 of portions 26. End blocks 5 comprise a horizontal, cylindrical, portion 34 which inserts into hole 21 located on the opposite side of fixed portion 32 to connecting portion 33 and horizontal gas passage 37 opening at end face 20 of portion 33 and upper surface 36 of portion 34. Fixed portions 25 and 32 are secured to plate 1 preferably by bolts 42 and may be cubic. Cylindrical connecting members 9 secured to gas control units such as toggle valve 6, filter 7, a pressure regulator, a check valve or automatic diaphragm valve 8 comprise inlet 10 and outlet 11 passages that communicate with passages 28, 37 are inserted into holes 20 and secured to connecting blocks 3, preferably by union nuts 17. Holes 20, 21 are preferable circular and hole 20 may extend to the periphery of hole 21 forming a deep portion into which connecting member 9 inserts.
