A pump 10, suitable for circulating coolant around an engine, includes an electric motor 12, mounted in a motor casing 14, which drives a rotatable pumping member 16. In use, some of a first fluid is pumped through a first fluid flow path A from a high pressure side 16a of the pumping member 16, into the motor casing 14 to cool the motor 12 and out to a low pressure side 16b of the pumping member 16. A heat exchanger, including a second fluid flow path B, is also provided between a wall of the motor casing 14 and a heat load 22, such that heat may be exchanged between a second fluid in flow path B and the first fluid in flow path A. The first fluid may be a water-based coolant for an engine and the second fluid may be engine oil The motor 12 may be a brushless DC motor, and the heat load 22 may be provided by electronic components for controlling the motor 12. |
