An organic-inorganic hybrid (ormosil) coating is formed by applying a first sol comprising at least one curing agent to a substrate to form a coating, allowing the first sol to dry or partially dry and applying a second sol comprising at least one ormosil or ormosil hybrid to the coating. The curing agent may be triethylenetriamine (TETA), diethylenetriamine (DEA) or tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA). The ormosil or ormosil hybrid may be tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) or tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) or 3-glycidoxypropylmethoxysilane (GLYMO). The substrate may be aluminium or aluminium alloy, glass, ceramic, stainless steel, carbon steel, galvanised steel or electroplated steel. An inorganic and/or organic dopant material such as nanoparticles, q -alumina, biologically active molecules, bacteria, metal or metal ion, dye, silicon carbide, metal carbide or alumina gel may be included in the first layer. A thick and dense anticorrosive coating is provided. |
