abstract A stator bar 200 includes a conductor 120, a layer of insulation 160 positioned about the conductor 120, and a high thermal conductivity varnish 165 to bond the layer of insulation 130 to the conductor 120. The arrangement further use putty 210 with high thermal conductivity to fill the gaps between conductor insulation 160 and the surrounding insulation 155 or the voids created if Roebeling of the conductors is employed (fig 4). Also disclosed is the use of a separator between tiered conductors 150 which includes a high thermal conductivity resin which resin may also flow and fill any gaps (280 fig 5) between the conductors. The high conductivity of the varnish, putty and resin may be achieved by the inclusion of a high conductivity filler which may comprise born nitride, aluminium oxide, silicon nitride, aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, strontium titanate, titanium dioxide, silica or diamond. A thermal conductivity of more than 0.2 W/mK is indicated for the varnish, putty and resin. The layer of insulation 160 may include a glass component and the separator may comprise a paper, felt or glass component.
