There is disclosed a liquid preparation device comprising a glass vessel for holding a liquid e.g. water to be prepared, the device has a glass substrate 5 bearing an thin film electrically conductive material. In a first embodiment, a transparent rod or tube 117 may extend from the base, lid, or spout of the vessel. The rod may house a float, have one or more metal oxide sensors 118 or may have a scale so that water level may be read. The rod is mounted at an axis of symmetry in the vessel so that the level is substantially unaffected by tilting (figure 2b). In alternative embodiments, a central tube or extension may have a thin film heating (element 305 — figure 3). In another embodiment, a power control device for a heating element is formed on a layer of semi conducting material. |
