abstract A method for monitoring a wireless process control network (200) comprising: receiving a geographic position data from a reference node; receiving environmental data from one or more environmental field devices of the reference node; wirelessly transmitting the environmental data and the geographic position data to a base node (62) communicatively attached to a host; interpreting the environmental data and the geographic position data at the host; sending a command from the host to the base node (62) to adjust at least one operating parameter of the wireless network based on the environmental data and the geographic position data; and wirelessly transmitting the command from the base node (62) to at least one field node (68) attached to a field device. The geographic position data may relate to the position of the reference node, the base node (62) or the field node (68). The environmental data may relate to temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, rainfall or RF noise. The operating parameter may be an RF power setting for the field nodes or a routing table for the wireless network.
