abstract |
Encapsulating video frame data units into a data stream 5a-5d comprising determining whether or not the data units are likely to be received according to a set decoding order and associating ordering information with the data stream indicating whether the order of the data units is likely to comply with the data unit decoding order. The determining step may be based on the order which data units are output from a parallel encoding process. Preferably, the data units each represent slice segments NALnm of a video frame and the set decoding order is an order of the slice segments within a slice e.g NAL0m. In an exemplary embodiment the data units are NAL units of video data encoded according to the HEVC format and the NAL units are encapsulated according to an RTP or base media file (BMF) protocol. The method prevents unnecessary reordering of the data units into a normative order at the encoder if the decoder supports the decoding of out of order access units. |
