| abstract | 272,676. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Leevers, F. W. June 9, 1926. Addition to 245,846. Heating by electricity; electric stovcs.-In a heating device according to the parent Specification wherein an electric heater is supported from one end of an arm 12 coupled at its other end to a switch 26, the arm actuates the switch during vertical movement and engages and disengages the switch operating member 25 during horizontal movement. The casing containing the switch is slotted to guide the movements of the arm. A detent device comprising a spring pressed plunger may be arranged in the vertical slot to support the heater when it has been raised sufficiently to break the circuit. The arm is lowered in the slot 19 in its final inoperative position, a receptacle containing water being arranged to receive the heater in this position when an immersion heater is used. The arm may be made in two parts forming a plug and socket connection. Two arms may be fitted to a common casing enclosing two switches. A modification for use with heavy currents employs. a knife switch strongly biassed to the open position by a spring. In Fig. 4 an intermediate member 30 sliding on a guide 31 is fitted between the arm 12 and the switch operating member 25. The heater may be a griller or toaster, or a warmer provided with a cover as described in Specification 278,778. |
