titleOfInvention Improvements in the preparation of double compounds containing calcium or other alkaline earth metal cyanide, and of solid calcium or other alkaline earth metal cyanide therefrom
abstract 300,348. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 19, 1927. Alkaline earth cyanides; ammonium compounds containing metals. - A compound Ca(CN)22NH3 which is relatively stable in presence of water and which on heating yields calcium cyanide is prepared by allowing a mixture of hydrocyanic acid and ammonia to act upon calcium oxide or hydrate or soluble salts of calcium in presence of water or organic solvents or suspension media such as methyl, ethyl or other alcohol, ether, benzene, pyridine &c. or by passing ammonia through a concentrated solution of calcium cyanide or by passing hydrocyanic acid and ammonia over powdered lime. The product may be dried by treatment at a low temperature with a current of dry ammonia or by treatment with a hydroscopic liquid such as alcohol. The Provisional Specification describes also the production of alkaline-earth compounds in general, and the use of amines such as methylamine in place of ammonia.
