[Class 144 (ii).] A protective and puncture-closing liner for pneumatic tyres, which may be detachably secured to the tread side of the air-tube, comprises a rubber sleeve 5 containing two plastic layers 6, 7 of india-rubber composition containing 18 per cent to 35 per cent of high-fraction mineral oil, the layer 7 being relatively more adhesive to a nail or like body than the outer layer 7 whereby a closure-plug is formed on withdrawal of the puncturing instrument. A layer 8 of adhesive may be applied to the undersurface of the sleeve and covered by a removable shellaced fabric strip 9. The following are stated to be suitable compositions for the parts of the liner. Layers 6 and 7 :-100 parts of hyper-masticated dead-rolled Para rubber with 30 parts and 20 parts respectively of spindle oil; and, for the sleeve 5 :-raw rubber 100 parts, zinc-white 3 parts, porcelain-earth 5 parts, paraffin 1 part, sulphur 2 parts, with the usual anti-agers and vulcanizing accelerators such as aldolnaphtylamin 2 parts, dinitrophenylester of dimethyl-dithiocarbamic acid 1 part.
