titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the conversion of organic sulphur compounds
abstract Organic sulphur in fuel gases is converted to hydrogen sulphide by treatment with ferrous sulphide, the action of this catalyst being assisted by a promoter selected from the oxides or sulphides of the third and sixth group metals. The hydrogen sulphide is then removed by any suitable method. The catalysts may be used between 400 and 1100 DEG F. or higher, but preferably at a temperature below that at which thermal decomposition of any hydrocarbons in the gases treated becomes appreciable. The action of the catalysts is improved if gases free from hydrogen sulphide are treated.
