titleOfInvention | Improved semi-automatic winding machine for producing electrodes for galvanic batteries |
abstract | 399,324. Batteries. HASSE, W., 12, Friesickestrasse, Weissensee, Berlin. Oct. 19, 1932, No. 29224. Convention date, June 23, 1932. [Class 53.] A semi-automatic machine for wrapping yarn twine, or the like around the dollies of the carbon electrodes of galvanic batteries after being covered by hand with fabric or the like comprises a chuck 2 driven from a motor 4 through a clutch 6, which is operated by a lever 19 controlled by a cam 17 on the mechanism for laying the yarn so that it is automatically disconnected when the yarn is laid and reconnected after an interval during which the wound dolly is manually removed and replaced by another. The chuck comprises resilient grippers 7 provided with knives to cut the yarn, and the dollies are supported by a headpiece 9 operated by a spring-controlled handle 10. The yarn is drawn from a supply spool 12 through a tension device 22, 23 and is laid by a guide 14 oscillated from a cam driven by a worm 16. A brush 29 is oscillated from the laying-mechanism so as to dip into a trough 28 containing paraffin or like coating-material and to engage the dolly during its ascent, or the yarn may be passed through the bath. The spindle 21 of the supply spool is provided with a ratchet wheel 24, Fig. 5, normally locked by a pawl 25 which is released when the yarn is tensioned. The yarn passes round a hook on the lever 22 so that when it is pulled during winding it moves the lever 22, which thereupon engages and releases the pawl 25 to permit the spindle 21 to rotate and let-off a supply of yarn. The lever is controlled by a spring 26a which is adjusted by the engagement of the lever 25a, to which it is anchored, with notches in a plate 25b. A rotary brush 31 is provided whereby the cut ends of the yarn may be bedded into the windings. |
