titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the cooling of internal combustion engines for operating pile-drivers and the like
abstract 415,980. Cooling cylinders. PFLUGER, A., 12a, M³lbergerstrasse, and HAAGE, K., 8, Turmstrasse, both in Esslingen-on-Neckar, Germany. April 16, 1934, No. 11374. Convention date, May 2, 1933. [Class 7 (ii).] The cylinder of an engine driving a pile-driver, or like apparatus in which violent reciprocations occur, has a jacket d substantially filled with water and connected by a restricted annular passage o to a steam space f above the cylinder head, from which the steam escapes past baffles i. An annular projection above the passage o causes water, thrown upwards, to be diverted over the cylinder head. In a modification, in which the cylinder has a detachable head, the passage o is replaced by a series of orifices drilled through the base of the head.
