titleOfInvention | Improvements in fuels for heavy oil engines |
abstract | Pressure extracts and destructive hydrogenation residues or products, rich in resins and asphalts, obtained from coal, peat, &c., are stabilized to prevent formation of solid deposits on storage or heating, by adding a small amount of an organic nitrogen compound or a cyclic organic hydroxy compound or both. These oils may be fuels for heavy oil engines. Stabilizers specified are wood tar, alkali- or alcohol-extracts of brown coal tar or of peat tar, pyridine, quinoline, piperidine, naphthylamine, butylamine, diethanolamine, ethyldiethanolamine, tributyl amine, diphenylethylene diamine, condensation products of ketones or phenols with amines, amino-acids, amino-phenols, acetylaminophenol, pyrogallol, hydroquinone. In examples: (1) 1 per cent of spruce-wood tar is added to an extract of coal obtained by treatment with tetrahydronaphthalene and phenol at 200 atmospheres at 380 DEG C.; (2) 0,5 per cent of naphthylamine is added to an oil freed from low-boiling constituents, obtained by the mild destructive hydrogenation of a mixture of Rhine brown coal and mineral coal middle oil; (3) 1 per cent of pine-wood tar is added to a tetrahydronaphthalene extract of brown coal, which has been freed from solids and from constituents boiling up to 325 DEG C. According to the first Provisional Specification the stabilizers may be added also to fuels consisting of cracking and distillation residues of mineral oils and tars. |
