abstract | 480,188. Wall plugs. RAWLINGS, J. J., and RAWLPLUG CO., Ltd. Oct. 8, 1936, No. 27321. [Class 89 (i)] A wall plug consists of a plurality of thin metal wires a, e.g. copper or iron wires, each having a covering b of asbestos fibres. The fibres may be twisted or wrapped round the wires or the latter may be coated with a composition containing asbestos fibres and an adhesive. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, fibre-covered wires c are used in conjunction with cords or strands d of asbestos. The plug is formed by uniting the sections a, Fig. 1, or c, d, Fig. 2, by means of an adhesive, such as sodium silicate, to which a filler, such as chalk, lime, or clay, may be added, and heating to a temperature above 150‹ C. The outer surface of the plug is roughened by plaiting the fibres or by the provision of a coating of pumice or silica or an outer sheathing of cotton braiding. A lubricant, such as graphite, is preferably applied to the interior surface of the plug. |
