[Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Groups V and XXXVI] Inserts such as metallic or other ducts 2 are moulded into discs 1 of glass or other mouldable material of predetermined shape and dimensions to serve particularly as the bases of electric discharge tubes by placing the discs with the inserts positioned therein within carbon moulds 10, 11 which may be apertured to accommodate the ducts 2. A high frequency induction coil 16 is placed around the moulds so that the discs are heated by eddy currents induced in the moulds and a light pressure is applied. Glass or other beads may be fused to the ducts before assembly and the operation may be carried out in a neutral atmosphere. |
