[Class 140] A composite board comprises alternate sheets of wood and loosely felted paper combined under a pressure of 1500-2500 lbs. per sq. inch or more, the paper being impregnated with an adhesive moisture-proofing substance which is extruded under the applied pressure and driven into the wood sheets. The pressure is applied while heating. Flat or curved panels may be made, with outer layers either of wood or paper. The wood sheets may be beach or birch veneer, or an ornamental wood. The paper may have the nature of a blotting sheet and a thickness approaching that of the veneers used. The adhesive may be a phenol-, urea-, or melaminealdehyde resin, a furfural resin, a polyvinyl resin, asphalt, synthetic rubber, or a mixture of synthetic rubber and phenol-aldehyde resin. |
