abstract | Resorcinol- and phloroglucinol-aldehyde condensation products are prepared by mixing approximately equimolecular proportions of resorcinol or phloroglucinol and an aldehyde of 2 to 7 carbon atoms in aqueous or aqueous alcoholic sulphuric acid of 5 to 10 per cent concentration and allowing to stand without external heating. The resorcinol or phloroglucinol may be dissolved in one portion of the reaction medium and the aldehyde in the other, the second portion being gradually added to the first. |
