titleOfInvention Improvements in cooling or heating machine parts
abstract 677,462. Cooling; heating-. SUDWERKE GES. Dec. 30, 1949 [Dec. 30, 1948], No. 33431/49. Class 7(ii) In machine parts, such as cylinder heads for internal-combustion engines, having a channel for cooling or heating medium, the channel is subdivided into simple sections 3, Fig. 1, each of which enters and emerges from the machine part separately and which are interconnected by means of sections of piping disposed outside the machine part. The cooling. or heating water or brine enters one of the lower channel sections and leaves by a conduit 5, Fig. 3. The invention may also be employed for the air cooling of engines. The channel section may either be cast in materials having a higher melting-point than that of the machine part or machined as grooves which may be covered by plates; the channels may incorporate uneven or corrugated inner surfaces. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a statement that the water cools the cylinder either before or after entering the cylinder head channel sections; the cylinder head and jacket may be cooled separately, and the coolant may pass helically around the cylinder which has fins on the exterior. The invention is also stated to be applicable to pumps, compressors, parts of the housings of gas and steam turbines and other machines. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
