titleOfInvention | Process for manufacturing steam-cured light-weight concrete |
abstract | In a process for manufacturing steam-cured light weight concrete from a mixture of fine-ground burnt unslaked lime, preferably high quality lime with high CaO content, and siliceous materials having a high silica content, water and a metal in powder form e.g. aluminium which can develop gas in the mixture, there is added in small amounts both an insoluble silicate-containing material capable of hydration such as finely ground Portland cement or finely ground basic blast furnace slag and a water-soluble sulphate sufficient to retard the slaking of the lime to provide sufficient time for gas development to occur before the batch thickens excessively. The silicate material may be water glass, Portland cement, slag cement or a basic blast-furnace slag. In an Example the following proportions of ingredients were used: 370 grm of a mixture of 20 per cent burnt lime and 80 per cent sand, 30 grm Portland cement, 3 grm gypsum, 1-4 grm K2SO4, 0.625 grm Al. powder fineness 28. The lime and sand are ground dry and intensively mixed when water is added in the mixer to dissolve the sulphate or water glass and then lime, sand and cement are added. Mixing continues for 1 minute when the Al. powder is added and thereafter for a further 2 minutes before emptying the batch into the moulds. |
