| abstract | The invention comprises a crystallizable complex of hydroquinone with a 2,6-trans, trans pentaene aldehyde having the formula <FORM:0728989/IV (b)/1> or <FORM:0728989/IV (b)/2> and the method of separating a 2,6-trans, trans pentaenal having the vitamin A aldehyde carbon skeleton from a mixture containing same by mixing said mixture with hydroquinone, thereby forming a hydroquinone complex with said pentaenal, and separating said complex from said mixture. The separation of the complex can be effected by standard procedures such as solvent partition or by crystallization. |
