titleOfInvention New and useful ester-salts of phosphoric acid
abstract The invention comprises ester-salts of phosphoric acid of the general formula <FORM:0731386/IV (b)/1> in which R1 is an alkyl group containing not more than 12 carbon atoms and R2 is an optional alkyl substituent in the ortho-position in the benzene ring. They are produced by dissolving a p-tertiary octyl-phenyl alkyl hydrogen phosphate in a molecular equivalent of sodium hydroxide solution, adding an aqueous solution of a stannous salt and filtering the resulting precipitate. Instead of filtering the ester may be extracted from the reaction mixture with a water-immiscible organic solvent. In an example the stannous of p-tertiary octyl-phenyl methyl hydrogen-phosphate is prepared by reacting stannous chloride with sodium p-tertiary octyl-phenyl methyl phosphate in aqueous solution. The ester-salts are useful as additives to liquid media for the suspension of pigments, as soil-suspending agents in dry-cleaning hydrocarbons, and as corrosion inhibitors for ferrous metals and in salt water-contaminated turbine oils. Specifications 699,080 and 713,757 are referred to.ALSO:Tin ester-salts of phosphoric acid of the general formula <FORM:0731386/III/1> in which R1 is an alkyl group containing not more than 12 carbon atoms and R2 is an optional alkyl substituent are of use as additives to liquid organic media for the suspension of pigments, as soil-suspending agents in hydrocarbons employed in dry-cleaning and as corrosion inhibitors for ferrous metals and in salt water - contaminated turbine oils. In experiments employing stannous p-tertiary octyl-phenyl methyl phosphate, (the preparation of which is described-see Group IV (b)) (1) artificially soiled fabric is cleaned with ligroin containing the tin ester salt; (2) lamp black is suspended in toluene containing the tin-ester salt; (3) a composition of lamp black, tricresyl phosphate and the tin-ester salt is prepared; (4) the addition of the tin ester-salt to a pale blue urea formaldehyde storing finish containing titanium oxide and Monastral Blue is effected; (5) the ester-salt is incorporated in a turbine oil. Specifications 699,080 and 713,757 are referred to. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of the ester-salt as an additive for extreme pressure lubricants.
