titleOfInvention Hair waving and setting composition
abstract A composition for use in hairdressing comprises an aqueous solution of a polymeric N-vinyl lactam and a water-soluble plasticizer having a pH of 6.5 to 11. The lactam may be a polymer of 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, 1-vinyl-5-methyl - 2 - pyrrolidone, 1 - vinyl - 2 - piperidone, or cyclic -N-vinyl-e -caprolactam. Plasticizers mentioned are ethylene, diethylene, propylene, trimethylene, tetramethylene, hexamethylene and polyethylene glycols, dimethoxy tetraglycol, glycerol, glycerol monoacetate, pentaerythritol monoacetate, and sorbitol. The compositions may also contain borax, ethyl alcohol, pH adjusters such as alkali metal carbonates, amines, or alkylated ammonium salts, gloss promotors, e.g. the polyoxyethylene monoester of tall oil, polyoxyethylene ethers of long chain alcohols, alkylated phenols, or polyoxyethylene glycol, brightening compounds such as 4:41-ditriazyldiaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid, and perfumes. The compositions may be used for waving and setting hair.ALSO:A hair waving composition comprises an aqueous solution of a polymeric N-vinyl lactam and a water-soluble plasticizer having a pH of 6.5 to 11. The composition may be applied by spraying or dipping a comb in the solution and the hair sets on drying. The treated hair may be wetted and re-set.
