titleOfInvention Process for preparing 3-(4-chlorobenzhydryloxy)-tropane
abstract 3 - (41 - Chlorobenzhydryloxy) - tropane is prepared by heating 3-tropanol with 4-chlorobenzhydryl chloride. The reaction is advantageously effected at about 145-155 DEG C. using 1-2 mols. of 3-tropanol per mol. of 4-chlorobenzhydryl chloride. The product, and its hydrochloride, are useful as antispasmodics and antihistaminics. In examples: (1) 4-chlorobenzhydryl chloride is heated with two molecular proportions of 3-tropanol in xylene, and the product is converted to its hydrochloride by the action of isopropanolic hydrogen chloride solution; (2) half the 3-tropanol in (1) is replaced by sodium carbonate.
