abstract | 790,804. Outboard motors. VEB. MASCHINEN-UND ZAHNRADERFABRIK GOTHA. Nov. 28, 1955, No. 34022/55. Class 114. In an outboard motor the drive shaft 1, clutch 4, 5, drive pinion 6 and shaft 3 therefor are removable as a unit from a housing 7 by unscrewing bolts 8 while the propeller unit with its drive is removable downwards from the housing. This unit is mounted in a sleeve 19 by needle bearings 12, the sleeve carrying an underwater housing 9 removable as a unit on unscrewing screws 10 which secure a flanged member 29 to the housing. Opposed bevel gears 22, 21 respectively on the shaft 30 of the propeller. 36 and a shaft 31 coaxial therewith, mesh with a gear 20 on a drive shaft 20a solid with a bevel 6a meshing with the bevel 6 and an opposed bevel on a hollow shaft 23a coaxial with the shaft 20a. The housing 9 and sleeve 19 are secured together by a threaded ring 27 engaging a flange on the sleeve 19, a seal 14 being interposed between the ring 27 and an extension 13 of the flanged member 29 which has passages 17 for the supply of grease to the seal. A sealing ring 14a makes a tight joint between the housing 7 and the sleeve 19. The transmission may be divided among several shafts such as 20a, the shafts being interconnected by spur gears. |
