titleOfInvention Process for the liquefaction and reliquefaction of natural gas
abstract 853,089. Liquefaction of gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd., [formerly CONSTOCK INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd.]. Jan. 13, 1959 [Jan. 29, 1958], No. 1282/59. Class 8(2). Liquefaction of natural gas comprising mostly methane stored in a container 10 is effected by continuously compressing a gas stream in stages 20, 28, 32, 36 to about 2000 p.s.i. removing the heat of compression in exchangers 24, 30, 34 and 38, removing condensed hydrocarbons in a separator 40, cooling to 32‹F. in an exchanger 16 and thereafter bleeding a substantial portion of the compressed gas stream from a duct 42 through a duct 60 to an isentropic expansion engine 62 and feeding the so cooled gas at about 60 p.s.i. through a heat exchanger 14 in countercurrent to the remaining compressed gas thereby liquefying it and finally expanding the said liquefied remainder to about 60 p.s.i. at a value 48 and feeding it to a separating drum 52 from which gas resulting from the last expansion at valve 48 is fed through a duct 64 together with gas from the engine 62 passing to the exchanger 14. Liquefied gas passes from drum 52 through a further expansion valve 56 to the container 10 at substantially atmospheric pressure and from which cold gas traverses a line 12 and the exchangers 14, 16 to the first compressor inlet. In a modification cold gas from the expansion engine 62 by-passes the drum 52 and enters the exchanger 14 directly.
