titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to methods of bonding metals to organic plastic materials and articles made thereby |
abstract | 864,812. Laminates. INTERNATIONAL RESISTANCE CO. June 16, 1958, No. 19169/58. Class 140. A metal having a copper surface is bonded to a layer of a thermoplastic material comprising a solid copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene by oxidizing the copper surface to provide layers of cuprous and cupric oxide, applying a preformed solid layer of the plastic to the oxidized surface, and applying heat and pressure. Oxidation of the copper surface may be effected by a hot alkaline chlorite solution. Bonding may be effected in a press or between rollers, and any desired number of alternate layers of copper and plastic may be built up. Layers of polytetrafluoroethylene may be bonded to the copolymer layers. The laminate may be used to form a printed circuit, which may be protected by bonding an additional layer of the plastic thereto. Specification 844,776 is referred to. |
