An illuminated sign comprises a transparent or translucent three-dimensional representation 1 secured to an opaque member 2 having a transparent area 3 delineated by diffuse lines. The member 2 is backed by a diffusing screen 4 of ground glass and is mounted in a vented housing 5. The light may be a fluorescent light or may be generated from oil or gas and the interior of the housing may be coated with a reflective material and provided with a power driven ventilating system. The member 1 may be made of methylmethacrylate and be. of rectangular, prismatic or semi-circular crosssection, either solid or hollow and coloured as desired. A colour filter may be disposed between the members 2, 4.
