titleOfInvention Process for dyeing fibrous material with silicon-containing azo dyestuffs
abstract Silicon-containing azo dyestuffs, which may be silanes or siloxanes, and are of the formula <FORM:0882602/IV (a)/1> where R is an aryl or substituted aryl nucleus, Ar is an arylene or substituted arylene radical, X is hydrogen or alkyl, V is alkyl or aryl, a is at least 3, b is 0 to 3, and the nitrogen atom is at least 3 carbon atoms removed from the silicon atom, are prepared in situ on fibrous material by treating the material with an arylaminoalkylsilane of the formula Ar1-N(X)CaH2\-Si(V)bY3-b where Ar1 is aryl and Y is alkoxy, and then contacting the treated fabric with a diazotized primary arylamine. The siloxane dyes of formula (1) are the same as those of the parent Specification. The arylaminoalkylsilanes of formula (2) are disclosed in Specification 882,052. They may be applied to the fabric as suspensions or solutions in water or in mixtures of water and an organic solvent. After drying, it is treated with a solution of the diazo compound. This latter solution may be stabilized. A number of examples are given.ALSO:Silicon-containing azo dyestuffs, which may be silanes or siloxanes, and are of the formula <FORM:0882602/IV (c)/1> where R is an aryl or substituted aryl nucleus, Ar is an arylene or substituted arylene radical, X is hydrogen or alkyl, V is alkyl or aryl, a is at least 3, b is 0 to 3, and the nitrogen atom is at least 3 carbon atoms removed from the silicon atom, are formed in situ on fibrous material, particularly glass fabric, by treating the material with an arylamino-alkyl silane of the formula: Ar1-N(X)CaH2aSi(V)bY3-b where Ar1 is aryl and Y is alkoxy, and then contacting the treated fabric with a diazotised primary arylamine. The siloxane dyes of formula (1) are the same as those of the parent specification. The silanes of formula (2) are disclosed in Specification 882,052. They may be applied to the fabric as suspensions or solutions in water or in mixtures of water and an organic solvent, which may contain wetting agents. After drying, the fabric is treated with a solution of the diazo compound, which may be stabilised with the usual amine compounds.
