abstract 898,328. Photographic developing and stabilizing compositions. KODAK Ltd. Sept. 26, 1958 [Sept. 30, 1957], No. 30769/58. Class 98(2). A photographic developing composition producing stable silver images without fixing and washing, especially for print-out and direct positive materials, comprises an aqueous alkaline solution of a hydroxylamine or a 3-pyrazolidone developing agent and one of the compounds monothioglycerol, thioglycol, B-mercaptoethylamine, N: N-diethyl-B-mercaptoethylamine and 2-thiobarbituric acid. In Example 1 specified proportions of 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone, sodium sulphite, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, 1-ascorbic acid and monothioglycerol provide a formula for processing time of 30 to 90 seconds with direct positive paper to give prints unaffected on exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Example 2 specifies hydroxylamine hydrochloride, monothioglycerol, sodium hydroxide and 5-methyl benzotriazole for similar use, and this composition may be applied to an unexposed emulsion layer for a few seconds immediately before exposure for stable print production without subsequent treatment. Examples 3-7 are generally similar. 26 of the pyrazolidones are listed. Specifications 631,184 and 693,632 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 542,502.
