titleOfInvention Improved carbon black collecting system
abstract <PICT:0938304/III/1> Carbon black may be recovered from a gaseous suspension by passage through a plurality of gravitational separators, e.g. cyclones, and thence into a bag filtering zone having at least two filtering compartments each of which contains at least one gas-permeable bag filter e.g. of glass cloth, and continuously and cyclically filtering the suspension in less than all of the filtering compartments with contemporaneous cleaning of the bag filters which are in the non-filtering zone by contacting the opposite side of the filter bag with a pulsating flow of repressuring gas substantially free of carbon black particles. The carbon black separated by gravity, together with that dislodged from the filter bags is discharged into a pneumatic trough wherein the repressuring gas effects transport of the recovered carbon black. In Fig. 1, the suspension previously cooled to 400 DEG -600 DEG F., passes through at least two cyclones 3 and 9, whence separated carbon black passes into a pneumatic conveyer 31 through rotary gas locks 6 and 12. The effluent from the cyclones in the first phase of the filtering cycle enters filtering compartments I and II through inlet manifold 13 and proceeds down through the upper bag nipple 48 and through the cloth of the bag 46 and clean effluent gas is withdrawn by fan 40 via 22 and 23 and discharged into the stack 42. Repressuring gas is introduced to compartment III to clean the bags existing therein by withdrawing clean gas from stack 42 through duct 43 and pulsating damper 44 (Fig. 2, not shown) using fan 49, into duct 50 and thence through an open damper 27. The repressuring gas passes through the cloth of the bags and down through the lower nipples 47 into the hopper 19 and out through damper 30. The pulsating flow of gas flexes the cloth of the filter bags and thus shakes the carbon black into the hopper 19 from whence it is carried via the conveyer 31 to a fan 32, which blows the fluidized carbon black into a cyclone 36. The major part of agglomerated black falls down through hopper 36 and rotary gas lock 37 for further processing. The fines are added to the main gas stream by line 35a and enter the primary cyclone 3 to be recycled. In the second phase of the filtering cycle, cyclone effluent passes through compartments I and III with contemporaneous cleaning of compartment II and in the final phase of the filtering cycle, the cyclone effluent passes through compartments II and III whilst compartment I is cleaned. The repressuring gas may be pulsated at 20 pulses per minute.
