[Also in Division H1] In a method of producing a potentiometer housing which comprises a hollow cylinder having an internal helical groove for accommodating a helical resistance element, a mould is formed between a hollow outer member 11 and a central core 12 shaped as shown (Fig. 1), the arrangement being that after the mould is set keys 17 are extracted and core 12 is removed by rotating it until threaded portions 13 occupy the recesses 27 (Fig. 2) left by the keys and then withdrawing it longitudinally. The outer member 11 is preferably removed before the core assembly is extracted and mounting shoulders 28 (Fig. 2) for the potentiometer and caps are formed during the moulding process. Either compression or transfer moulding may be used and one example of a suitable moulding material is given as glass filled diallyl phthalate resin. |
