titleOfInvention Printing formes and a proces for their production by silver salt diffusion procedure
abstract 950,007. Photographic processes. AGEA A. G. Nov. 15,1961 [Nov. 16, 1960], No. 40864/61. Headings G2C and G2M. A process for the production of printing forms comprises (i) developing an imagewise exposed silver halide emulsion layer with a developer containing a silver halide solvent (ii) during or after development contacting the emulsion layer with a non-light sensitive layer comprising a polymeric compound having free or neutralised carboxyl groups, the layer being coated on a support and being capable of adhering selectively to the unexposed parts of the silver halide emulsion, and (iii) separating the silver halide emulsion layer from the non-light sensitive layer. The unexposed areas of the silver halide layer react with the non-light sensitive material and adhere thereto and on separation the non-light sensitive material is removed from its support. The polymeric compound may have a pyranoside structure and 10-50% of free carboxyl groups, or may comprise a polymer of one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers, at least 20% of which comprise acrylic and/or maleic acid, or may be a phenol formaldehyde condensation product. A layer of carboxymethyl cellulose on a paper carrier may be brought into contact with an exposed silver halide emulsion and both layer moistened with a developer containing a solvent for silver halides. On separating the two layers the reacted portions of carboxymethyl cellulose are present as a relief on the non-light-affected areas of the negative.
