titleOfInvention | Process for separating substances in liquid mixtures by partial evaporation |
abstract | 966,890. Separation of liquid mixtures by partial vaporization. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. July 10, 1961 [July 9, 1960], No. 24975/61. Heading BIB. A liquid mixture is partially vaporized by atomizing it through distributer 3 by means of steam supplied through line 5. The turbulent mixture of liquid, vapour and steam issuing from the distributer 3 rapidly passes down the column 4 to the separator 7. Any liquid that separates out on the walls of column 4 is redistributed in the turbulent mixture passing down the column by annular.distributers 6. In separator 7, the droplets of the liquid residue are separated from the mixture of vapour and steam, and the liquid residue is removed continuously via line 8. The mixture of vapour and steam passes via line 9 into the condenser 10. The condensate formed in condenser 10 passes via line 11 into a gravity separator 12 wherein the distillate is separated from the condensed steam. In an example, methyl methacrylate is separated from a reaction mixture, produced by treating acetone cyanhydrin with methanol and sulphuric acid, by atomizing the mixture with steam at 83 ‹C. The turbulent mixture thus produced is at 68 ‹C. and passes from the distributer 3 into the column in which a vacuum of about 200 mm. Hg. is maintained. The residence time in the column is less than 1 second. |
