titleOfInvention | Isomerization of olefins |
abstract | The double bond isomerization of C4-C8 mono-olefins is effected at elevated temperature over an anionic catalyst obtained by calcining a composition of alumina and 0.4-8 milli-equivalents per gram of alumina of an oxide or compound which decomposes on calcination of an alkali or alkaline earth metal. The isomerizations of 2-methylbutene-1 or 2-methylbutene-2 to 3-methylbutene-1, of butene-1 to cis- and trans-butene-2 and of 2-methylpentene-1 principally to 2-methylpentene-2 are specified. Suitable conditions are 200-1100 DEG F. with an olefin partial pressure of 12-300 p.s.i.a. and a WHSV of up to 200 may be used; hydrogen up to a partial pressure of 500 p.s.i.a. may be added, and an inert diluent may be used if desired. |
