titleOfInvention Method of and apparatus for the manufacture by electro-erosion of rolls for rolling shaped members
abstract 999,525. Electro-erosion. NASSOVIA WERK. ZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Feb. 26, 1964 [March 2, 1963], No. 8057/64. Heading B3V. A profile is formed on the peripheral surface of a roll 6 by electro-erosion using a tool electrode 17 of the desired shape which during erosion is moved along a straight path whilst the roll is rotated about its axis. A pair of rolls 6, 6<SP>1</SP> which are to be used in combination for rolling turbine blades, have their peripheral surfaces eroded by a copper electrode 17 of blade profile, mounted in a chuck 16 of a work-head 14 which is fed automatically by a servomotor in dependence upon the operating conditions in the spark-gap. Both rolls 6, 6<SP>1</SP> are mounted on rotatable spindles 4, 4<SP>1</SP> which are adjustable horizontally on a base 1. Endless belts 11, 11<SP>1</SP> of plastic or preferably steel pass around pulleys attached to the rolls and around vertically adjustable tensioning rollers 8, 8<SP>1</SP>. The belts are attached to their pulleys by pins 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and are clamped by a bracket 20 to the work-head 14. Thus the rolls rotate with the same linear speed as the feed of the electrode. The apparatus is in a dielectric liquid during the erosion operation.
