The present invention relates to the use of the following active ingredients for the preparation of a medicament for treating terrestrial mammalian epidermis or mucous membrane of a patient suffering from differentiation or excessive proliferation or disorder of the epidermal barrier function, wherein the active ingredient is any of the following: an activator of a farnesoid-X-activated receptor or an activated a-receptor activator of aperoxisome proliferator; or an oxysterine-type activator of the LXRα receptor.
