A load handling apparatus comprises a wheeled base structure (10) carrying a first elongate platform (12) to receive thereon a load (8) such as a payload or pieces of luggage. Means to move a load (8) along the platform (12) are provided, together with extension means (30, 34) to raise and lower the platform (12) relative to the structure (10) between a load-receiving position and a load-delivery position.
