abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sufficient deformability by reducing deformation resistance in as-hot-rolled low-medium carbon steel or low-medium carbon low alloy steel, and to simplify or omit spheroidizing annealing treatment. Also provides steel wire with excellent cold workability. SOLUTION: C: A steel wire rod containing 0.03 to 0.8% by mass, having an average ferrite particle diameter of 2 to 5.5 µm, a long diameter of 3 µm or less (long diameter / short diameter). The region where the indicated cementite having an aspect ratio of 3 or less accounts for 70 area% or more of the total cementite is a region where the line diameter is 10% or more from the surface.
