(57) [Summary] (with correction) [PROBLEMS] To provide a method for producing a cholesteric liquid crystal film in which diffracted light itself produces specific polarized light. SOLUTION: A weight average molecular weight Mw of 1000 to 100,000 and a molecular weight distribution (Mw / Mn; Mn is a first step of developing a film material containing a high-molecular liquid crystal having a number average molecular weight of 5 or less as an essential component, and forming and fixing a cholesteric alignment in the developed film material in a liquid crystal state. A second step of forming a cholesteric liquid crystal film surface and a support substrate, and a fourth step of removing the diffraction element substrate from the cholesteric liquid crystal film.
